How Does A Sump Pump Work?

A sump pump is a drainage system commonly installed in crawl spaces that experience groundwater intrusion or flooding. It uses a French drain, which is a trench filled with drain rocks and a perforated pipe, to collect water and direct it into a basin, preventing standing water and protecting your foundation. As water collects in the basin, the pump activates and pushes the water out of the crawl space through a PVC discharge pipe. This system also includes a flood alarm, which sits inside the basin and alerts you if the water rises too high, giving you an early warning before flooding occurs.
